Ask for the person’s full professional name
A practice name is not the same as the name of the person performing a service. Ask for their full name, professional credential, and license number. Also ask who is responsible for your assessment, who performs the procedure, and who provides follow-up. These may be different people.
Keep the answers in your comparison notes. If you cannot identify the person who would treat you, you do not yet have enough information to finish your research.
Use the state’s own lookup
Ohio’s eLicense portal provides a search for licenses issued by participating state boards. Search using the professional’s name or license number, check that the identity matches, and read the current status and any available public information. Follow the relevant board’s links when you need clarification.
A license lookup is one research step. It does not prove experience with a particular procedure, guarantee results, or establish that every service on a practice’s menu is appropriate for you. Board certification is a separate claim that should be verified with the named certifying board.
Ask about relevant experience
During the consultation, ask about the provider’s experience with the specific procedure under discussion and with people whose needs are similar to yours. Ask how complications are recognized and handled, who you contact after hours, and what follow-up is included.
